Description

Enjoy making and sharing these festive treats!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 box vanilla cake mix
  • Ingredients required for cake mix (typically eggs, oil, and water)
  • Blue food coloring
  • 1 cup cream cheese frosting
  • 12 oz white chocolate chips or candy melts
  • Blue candy melts (optional)
  • White sparkling sugar for decoration
  • Vegetable oil (optional, for thinning chocolate)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Cake:
    • Preheat your oven according to the instructions on the cake mix box.
    • Mix the vanilla cake batter according to package instructions, adding blue food coloring until you achieve the desired shade.
    • Pour the batter into a greased cake pan and bake as directed.
    • Allow the cake to cool completely.
  2. Make the Cake Balls:
    • Once the cake is cool, crumble it into a large bowl.
    • Add the cream cheese frosting and mix until the mixture is thoroughly combined and can be easily shaped into balls.
    • Roll the mixture into small balls (about 1 inch in diameter) and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
    • Freeze the balls for about 15-20 minutes, or until firm.
  3. Coat the Cake Balls:
    • Melt the white chocolate chips or candy melts in a microwave-safe bowl, stirring every 30 seconds until smooth. If using blue candy melts, melt them using the same method.
    • If the chocolate is too thick, add a small amount of vegetable oil to thin it.
    • Remove the cake balls from the freezer.
    • Dip each ball into the melted chocolate, ensuring it is fully coated. Use a fork to lift the ball out, letting the excess drip off.
    • Place the coated balls back on the parchment-lined sheet.
  4. Decorate:
    • While the coating is still wet, sprinkle the tops with white sparkling sugar for a snowy effect.
    • Allow the coated cake balls to set completely at room temperature or in the refrigerator.

Notes

  • If your cake balls crack when coated, ensure they are not too cold by letting them rest at room temperature for a few minutes before dipping.
  • You can experiment with flavors by using different cake mix and frosting combinations.
  • For a more professional look, use a toothpick to dip the cake balls and patch the hole with a little extra melted chocolate.
  • Store completed cake balls in an airtight container to maintain freshness.
