Description

This cream cheese frosting is perfect for cakes, cupcakes, and cookies.


Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened to room temperature
  • 8 oz. cream cheese, softened to room temperature
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon lemon juice (optional)
  • 4 cups powdered sugar

Instructions

  1. Using a hand mixer or stand mixer with a paddle or whisk attachment, cream softened 1/2 cup unsalted butter until light and fluffy.
  2. Mix in the softened 8 oz. cream cheese, 1 tablespoon vanilla extract, and, if you wish, 1/4 teaspoon lemon juice.
  3. With the mixer working at slow speed, slowly start adding 3 cups powdered sugar and beat until smooth (if you want a bit thicker frosting, you can add up to an extra 1 cup powdered sugar, a little at a time).
  4. Increase the speed and whip until you have a fluffy consistency.
  5. Use on completely cooled cake, cupcakes, cookies, etc.
