Ingredients

  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast (1 packet)
  • 1 cup warm milk (110°F)
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg, room temperature

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, combine warm milk and sugar; sprinkle yeast on top. Allow it to sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. In a mixing bowl, whisk together flour and salt. Make a well in the center; add melted butter, egg, and yeast mixture. Mix until combined.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 8 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a cloth, and shape each into a ball and place on a greased baking sheet.
  5. Cover and let rise for another 30 minutes while preheating the oven to 375°F.
  6. Bake for about 20 minutes until golden brown. Brush with melted butter if desired.
