This delightful festive yule log cake combines a chocolate sponge with a rich cream filling, perfect for holiday celebrations.

- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 6 large eggs
- 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1/4 cup powdered sugar

- Red and green gel food coloring
- 1/2 cup butter, softened
- 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
- Holiday-themed sprinkles and edible decorations
Instructions
- Prepare the Cake:
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Line a 15×10-inch jelly roll pan with parchment paper and grease it lightly.
- In a bowl, beat the eggs and granulated sugar together until thick and pale. Mix in vanilla extract.
- Sift in flour and cocoa powder, folding gently until combined.
- Divide the batter into three parts. Color one part red, another green, and leave one plain.
- Spread the batters evenly on the prepared pan in layers or swirls as desired.
- Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the cake springs back when touched.
- Immediately turn the cake onto a clean kitchen towel sprinkled with powdered sugar. Peel off the parchment.
- Roll up the cake with the towel from the short side and let it cool completely with seam side down.
- Prepare the Filling:
- Beat heavy cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until stiff peaks form.
- Assemble the Cake:
- Unroll the cooled cake carefully. Spread the whipped cream mixture evenly over it.
- Roll the cake back up (without the towel) and place it seam-side down on a serving plate.
- Decorate:
- Color the buttercream with red and green food coloring. Pipe the buttercream decoratively over the cake to resemble a tree log.
- Add holiday-themed sprinkles and edible decorations as desired.
Notes
- Be cautious with the food coloring; a little goes a long way.
- If the cake cracks while rolling, use additional buttercream to help it hold shape.
- Chill the assembled cake for a few hours before serving to enhance flavors and stabilization.
