A delicious recipe for gingerbread cookies that are perfect for decorating during the holidays.
Ingredients

- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 2 tsp ground ginger
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp ground cloves
- 3/4 cup unsalted butter (softened)
- 1 cup brown sugar (packed)
- 1/2 cup molasses
- 1 egg yolk
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, ginger, cinnamon, and cloves until combined.
- In another bowl, cream softened butter and brown sugar until fluffy. Mix in molasses and egg yolk until smooth.
- Gradually add dry ingredients to the wet mixture; stir until just combined.
- Lightly flour your workspace and roll out dough to about 1/4-inch thickness. Cut into desired shapes and place on prepared baking sheets.
- Bake for 8–10 minutes until edges are firm but centers remain soft. Cool on racks before decorating.
Notes
- For best results, chill the dough for at least 30 minutes before rolling out.
- Decorate with royal icing or candy as desired.
