Description

A delicious recipe for gingerbread cookies that are perfect for decorating during the holidays.


Ingredients

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 2 tsp ground ginger
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp ground cloves
  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter (softened)
  • 1 cup brown sugar (packed)
  • 1/2 cup molasses
  • 1 egg yolk

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, ginger, cinnamon, and cloves until combined.
  3. In another bowl, cream softened butter and brown sugar until fluffy. Mix in molasses and egg yolk until smooth.
  4. Gradually add dry ingredients to the wet mixture; stir until just combined.
  5. Lightly flour your workspace and roll out dough to about 1/4-inch thickness. Cut into desired shapes and place on prepared baking sheets.
  6. Bake for 8–10 minutes until edges are firm but centers remain soft. Cool on racks before decorating.

Notes

  • For best results, chill the dough for at least 30 minutes before rolling out.
  • Decorate with royal icing or candy as desired.
