Description
A classic, hearty beef lasagna layered with rich cheese and savory marinara sauce.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb ground beef
- 9 lasagna noodles
- 2 cups ricotta cheese
- 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 large egg
- 1 jar marinara or tomato sauce (24 oz/700ml)
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Fresh basil or parsley for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Prepare the Sauce: Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add chopped onion and garlic, cooking until softened. Add ground beef, cooking and breaking it apart until browned. Drain excess fat, then stir in marinara sauce, basil, oregano, salt, and pepper. Simmer for about 15 minutes to blend flavors.
- Cook the Noodles: Boil lasagna noodles according to package instructions. Drain and set aside.
- Prepare the Cheese Mixture: In a bowl, combine ricotta cheese, egg, and a pinch of salt and pepper.
- Assemble the Lasagna: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Spread a thin layer of meat sauce at the bottom of a 9×13 inch (23×33 cm) baking dish. Place three lasagna noodles over the sauce. Spread half of the ricotta mixture over the noodles. Spoon over some meat sauce, then sprinkle with mozzarella cheese. Repeat layers, ending with noodles and a generous topping of meat sauce and remaining mozzarella and Parmesan cheese.
- Bake: Cover with aluminum foil and bake in preheated oven for 25 minutes. Remove foil and bake an additional 15 minutes, until cheese is bubbly and golden.
- Rest and Serve: Allow the lasagna to rest for 10 minutes before slicing. Garnish with fresh basil or parsley if desired.
Notes
- For added flavor, consider using a mixture of ground beef and pork.
- Fresh herbs can elevate the flavor; consider adding fresh basil leaves.
- If you like extra cheesy lasagna, add more mozzarella between layers.
- Use oven-ready noodles to save time on boiling.
