Description

Enjoy your festive Christmas Star Santa Cookies!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ teaspoon almond extract
  • Vanilla icing
  • Red sanding sugar
  • Mini chocolate chips (for eyes)
  • Red candies (for nose)

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.

  2. Mix Dry Ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.

  3. Cream Butter and Sugar: In a large bowl, cream the softened butter and granulated sugar together until light and fluffy.

  4. Add Wet Ingredients: Beat in the egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract until well combined.

  5. Combine Ingredients: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing on low speed until the dough forms.

  6. Roll and Cut Dough: Roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface to about ¼ inch thickness. Use a star-shaped cookie cutter to cut out star shapes.

  7. Bake Cookies: Place the star-shaped cookies on the prepared baking sheets and bake for 8-10 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden. Allow them to cool completely on a wire rack.

  8. Decorate: Spread vanilla icing over the tops of the cooled cookies. Sprinkle red sanding sugar on one point of the star to create Santa’s hat. Use mini chocolate chips to create the eyes. Place a red candy in the center for the nose.

Notes

  • Make sure the butter is softened for easier creaming with the sugar.
  • Chill the dough for 15-30 minutes if it becomes too soft to handle.
  • Use royal icing for more detailed decorations if desired.
  • Store cookies in an airtight container to maintain freshness.
